Kigali: The 31st Zigama Credit and Savings Society (Zigama CSS) general meeting was held yesterday at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Kimihurura where members were urged on embracing digital transactions to avoid waste of time spent while going to different branches.
During the last similar bi-annual meeting in November 2018, Zigama CSS had announced that it will start issuing own visa cards this year, allowing thousands of its members to enjoy seamless digital payment services which adds to the already existing mobile application.
Dr James Ndahiro, the Chairman of Zigama Board of Directors said that the bank projects increasing the use of technology to help members by saving transport that used to cost them while looking for services at different Zigama CSS branches.
“We’re trying to get the bank services closer to the members of Zigama CSS as they can use their cell phones other means of technology. The aim is to reduce the cost of the transport to access services at the bank. The upcoming products will mainly focus on digital technology,” Dr Ndahiro told reporters after the meeting.
Mid this year, Zigama CSS will be the first bank in Rwanda to provide Visa card services without routing through a foreign “third party processor”. The bank also announced that they registered a net profit of Rwf9.6 billion last year (2018).
On the other hand, the board admitted Rwanda Forensic Laboratory as the newest member of Zigama CSS. This means that employees of Rwanda Forensic Laboratory will now enjoy Zigama services too.
Zigama, whose clients are predominantly members of the Rwanda Defence Force, Rwanda National Police (RNP), Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS), Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has more than 90,000 members. (End)
