Egypt donates to Rwanda medical supplies to fight against Covid-19

This Monday, 07 September Rwanda received a donation of medical supplies to guard against COVID-19 from Egypt worthy US $150,000 (Rwf.145 million).

The donation was handed over by the Ambassador of Egypt to Rwanda, Ahmed El Ansary to the Rwandan Minister of Health, Dr Daniel Ngamije.

The half-ton donation is made up of a variety of medical supplies that will help protect frontline staff from COVID-19 in isolation and treatment centers.

The Minister of Health stressed that this support will reduce contamination among healthcare staff, as well as for other diseases linked to COVID-19 at the level of health centers outside the City of Kigali.

“There is hope to find the vaccine against COVID-19. But we also have appropriate care services to deal with the pandemic. This is why this donation is very appreciable to protect healthcare workers exposed to more risks in the fight against COVID-19,” he said.

Minister Ngamije said this donation consists of a variety of medical supplies. The donation is made of various materials such as masks and other materials used to cover the head, as well as appropriate boots when treating the sick.

“These materials will protect doctors and patients who come for treatment. It will enable hospitals in districts and provinces to be equipped, especially where COVID-19 has manifested itself a lot and where we have an increasing number of contaminations “, he informed.

Ambassador Ahmed El Ansary indicated that this donation represents part of the US$4 million that his country has pledged to grant to member countries of the African Union (AU) as part of the fight against COVID-19. The funds will go to the AU’s Center for Pandemic and Disaster Control (CDC), which is also fighting COVID-19.

“This grant supports men and women in the area of health, especially with regard to the important work of prevention against COVID-19”, he stressed.

Egypt is one of the African countries most affected by COVID-19. It now has 99,863 contaminations and 5,530 deaths while Rwanda has 4,374 contaminations and 19 deaths. (End)
