This morning, Minister of Education Dr. Valentine Uwamariya virtually participated in the G20 Education Ministers’ Meeting, a hybrid event taking place in Bali, Indonesia from 31 August to 2 September under the theme “Recover, Reimagine, and Rebuild Stronger”.
In her remarks, Dr. Valentine Uwamariya said that the meeting is a key milestone towards strong partnerships to recover together from the impact of COVID-19, revamp the quality of Education and help our children, and students acquire relevant skills.
“COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated that globally coordinated efforts can yield more results than working in an isolated space. The need for coordinated policies for skills development & skills use calls for strategic approach involving all efforts across the world”, She added.
“Digital technology is crucial to support quality in education and develop competence to meet industry needs. The use of digitalised curriculum material and flexible distance learning packages is not only cost-effective but also allows many learners to participate”, Dr. Valentine Uwamariya explained.
“We recognise and appreciate the strong cooperation that exists between G2O and developing countries in general and African Union Development Agency, AUDA – NEPAD countries in particular. I am confident that this forum will spearhead future cooperation,” the Rwandan Minister of Education emphasized.
The G20 is a strategic multilateral platform connecting the world’s major developed and emerging economies. The G20 holds a strategic role in securing future global economic growth and prosperity. Together, the G20 members represent more than 80 percent of world GDP, 75 percent of international trade and 60 percent of the world population.
Starting in 1999 as a meeting for the finance minister and central bank governors, the G20 has evolved into a yearly summit involving the Head of State and Government. In addition to that, the Sherpa meetings (in charge of carrying out negotiations and building consensus among Leaders), working groups, and special events are also organized throughout the year. (End)
