Amb. Fukushima and Mbonyumuvunyi signing the grant agreement
Mr. Isao FUKUSHIMA, Ambassador of Japan to Rwanda, and Mr. MBONYUMUVUNYI Radjab, the Mayor of Rwamagana District, signed a grant contract for the project for the construction of Cyaruhogo irrigation systems. Under the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP/Kusanone), the Embassy of Japan will provide USD 74,138 to Rwamagana district and this Project will contribute to the improvement of rice cultivation and farmers’ livelihood of more than 3,000 people in and around Rubona Sector, Rwamagana District.
Under GGP/Kusanone, the Government of Japan provides grants to NGOs, educational institutions, health institutions and local authorities for their development projects at community level. This Project responds to diverse development needs in the areas of education, health, water and sanitation and agricultural development in Rwanda.
During the ceremony, Ambassador FUKUSHIMA explained the importance of contributing to agriculture sector which is a mainstay of Rwanda’s economy. He also welcomed Rwamagana district’s great contribution to this Project and expected to see a great outcome.
This Project also aims to generate a synergistic effect with the Project for Water Management and Capacity Building (WAMCAB), under the support by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which started in 2019. This WAMCAB Project intends to improve the capability of managing irrigation and water systems.
Japan has also worked on irrigation system in Rwamagana District for a long time such as “The Project for Rehabilitation of Irrigation Facilities in Rwamagana District” by the Grant Aid Japan will continue its efforts to support and work with the people at grassroots level in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda as well as NGOs in Rwanda.
