Kigali: A 23-year old woman was arrested in Ngororero District after she used her baby to conceal narcotics on her back.
The suspect was at the time traveling in a commuter from Rubavu before it was stopped in Rususa village along Rubavu-Muhanga highway.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Solange Nyiraneza, the Regional Community Policing Officer (RCPO)-west, said that the suspect was trafficking 1,018 rolls of cannabis.
“Police mounted a roadblock in Rususa village along Rubavu-Muhanga highway where a commuter taxi was stopped at about midday, following information that there was a woman on board, trafficking narcotics from Rubavu.
The suspect had packed the narcotics in a mosquito net and used her baby to conceal them on the back in an attempt to beat security,” SP Nyiraneza said.
The suspect disclosed that she was heading to Ngororero sector, Kazabe cell where she was supposed to supply one of the retailing clients.
She further claimed that she was working for another drug dealer operating in Kanama sector of Rubavu District, and that she was to be paid Frw10,000 after successfully delivering the narcotics to the client.
She was handed over to RIB at Ngororero station for further investigations.
Article 263 of the law determining offences and penalties in general, provides a sentence of between 20 years and life imprisonment, and a fine of up to Frw30 million, for anyone convicted of trafficking and distributing narcotic drugs. (End)
