Minister of State Kabarebe graced the closing of the African Liberation Day soccer tournament

This afternoon, in presence of African heads of diplomatic missions and other senior officials, Minister of State James Kabarebe officiated the closing of the football tournament organized in line with the celebration of the 61st Anniversary of the Africa Liberation Day (ALD2024). 

In the preparations for ALD2024 with the Theme: “Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century”, Rwanda organized an annual soccer tournament that connects African countries with embassies in Rwanda and members of Pan African Movement Rwanda.

At the end of the African Liberation Day soccer tournament in 2024, which brought together African Diplomatic corps, Rwandans and Africans living in Rwanda, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Charge of Regional Cooperation Gen. (Rtd.) Kabarebe James was the Guest of Honor. 

This year marks the 61st Anniversary of African Liberation Day (ALD). The Official day, 25th May 1963 was designated as such by the Organisation of African Unity the predecessor to the African Union. 

ALD is an occasion when African people world-wide focus on the fight for total African liberation and self-determination

The celebration marks each year’s progress in the liberation of Africa and symbolizes the determination of the people of Africa to free themselves from the yoke of foreign domination and exploitation which has a long and glorious history. 

The celebration brought together members of the Pan African Movement in the country, diplomatic corps, politicians as well as academia among others. (End)
