The 2023/2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) commenced yesterday, marking a pivotal moment for 202,999 students across Rwanda. Organized by the Ministry of Education through the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA), this national assessment aims to evaluate the learning outcomes of primary six students and guide their transition to lower secondary education.
The official launch event was held at GS Gisozi I in Gasabo District, where Minister of Education Gaspard Twagirayezu addressed 465 candidates, comprising 239 boys and 226 girls.
Minister Twagirayezu encouraged the students to approach the examinations with confidence and extended his best wishes for their success. He also urged parents to support their children in preparing well for the exams.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and its affiliated institutions were present at various examination centers across the country to oversee the commencement of the exams. Notable officials included Bernard Bahati, Director General of NESA, at GS Muhambara in Nyaruguru District, and Paul Umukunzi, Director General of RTB, at GS Rusongati in Rubavu District.
Additionally, Nelson Mbarushimana, Director General of REB, was at GS Nyakarenzo in Rusizi District, Rose Baguma, Director General of Education Policy and Analysis at MINEDUC, was at GS Mayange A in Bugesera District, and Vianney Kavutse, Head of the Department for Basic Education and TVET Quality Assurance at NESA, was at GS Musenyi in Nyagatare District.
The PLE, spanning from July 8 to July 10, covers five subjects: Mathematics, Ikinyarwanda, English, Science and Elementary Technology, and Social & Religious Studies.
These examinations are being conducted at 1,118 selected centers nationwide, supported by 12,302 invigilators. (End)
