Earlier today, at the High-Level Side Event to commemorate the East African Community (EAC) 25th Anniversary, Minister of State in charge of Regional Cooperation James Kabarebe reaffirmed Rwanda’s unwavering commitment to the EAC’s integration agenda and the prosperity of our region.
The climax of the celebrations of the EAC’s Silver Jubilee (25th Anniversary) will be on EAC Day on 30th November, 2024 when the Summit of Heads of State are expected to hold their 24th Ordinary Summit.
Preceding the Summit meeting there is a High-Level Side Event on 29th November, 2024 focusing on the journey the Community has travelled over the past 25 years and role of digital transformation in the integration process.
The celebrations will continue until 30th June, 2025 with a number of activities outlined at both the national and regional levels.
In 1996, Rwanda showed interest to join the East African Community and officially joined the EAC in 2007. The Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Burundi acceded to the EAC Treaty on 18 June 2007 and became full Members of the Community with effect from 1 July 2007. (End)
