Prime Minister opened the Africa Trade Development Forum 2024

Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente presided over the opening of the 6th Edition of the Africa Trade Development Forum in a ceremony held at Kigali Marriot Hotel.

While addressing participants, the Prime Minister congratulated His Excellency Haile Mariam Desalegn, recently appointed as TradeMark Africa Board Chair and expressed confidence in his strategic leadership and extensive experience to  guide TradeMark Africa towards trade transformation across the Continent.

The Premier also commended the ongoing implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area and its Digital Trade Protocol. 

He insisted on the need for African countries to invest in digital and technological capabilities and adapt to the ever-changing trade environment driven by emerging technologies. 

The Prime Minister reiterated the call made by President Paul in Biashara Afrika 2024, stressing the importance of free movement of people, goods and services to unlock the full potential of intra-Africa trade.

He called upon private sector actors to seize the opportunities under the AfCFTA and  expand their businesses through regional value chains and cross-border trade.

He shared Rwanda’s journey towards fostering a digital trade ecosystem and underscored its  continued commitment in advancing digital trade to drive regional integration and economic growth. (End)
