President Kagame congratulates Namibia’s first female president-elect

Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has extended heartfelt congratulations to the leader of the ruling Swapo party, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, following her historic victory in the 2024 presidential and National Assembly elections in Namibia.

Nandi-Ndaitwah secured 57.3% of the votes and is set to become Namibia’s first female president when she assumes office on 21 March 2025.

In a message released shortly after the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) announced the official results on 3 December, President Kagame praised the Namibian electorate for making history by choosing Nandi-Ndaitwah as the new head of state.

“Congratulations to President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Vice President of the SWAPO Party, on a successful election and decisive victory, a clear testament of the trust of the people of Namibia. Rwanda looks forward to continuing the mutually beneficial cooperation between our two nations,” President Kagame said via X.

With regard to the National Assembly elections, the SWAPO Party won a majority 51 seats, followed by the Independent Patriots for Change with 20 seats out of the 96 seats in the National Assembly.  (End)
