Desire Mugwiza has been re-elected president of the Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA), it has been confirmed.
Voting took place on Saturday 21 December and Desire Mugwiza, who ran unopposed, was re-elected for a fourth four-year term (2024-2028). Mugwiza has led FERWABA since 2013.
Pascale Mugwaneza, a member of the FIBA Central Board, was elected first vice-president of FERWABA, while Jose Edouard Munyangaju was elected second vice-president of the organisation.
“We are honoured to take on this responsibility and serve the basketball community in Rwanda. Our team is determined to build on the Federation’s achievements, develop talent and enhance Rwanda’s position in the global basketball arena,” said Mugwiza after the election.
Under Mugwiza, FERWABA has become a hub for African basketball in recent years. In addition to hosting the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket and the 2021 AfroBasket, Rwanda hosted one of the two pre-qualifying tournaments for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in August. (End)
