Rwanda National Police (RNP) has reminded motorists to exercise maximum caution while transporting students to their respective schools.
The second term of the 2024-2025 academic year will start this Monday, January 6, and boarding students have been going back since Friday, January 3.
“Students started returning to their respective schools since Friday. As usual, when schools resume, the traffic flow is high.”
“We, therefore, remind school bus drivers and parents taking their children to school to exercise maximum caution; ensure vehicles are in roadworthy state, no speeding, no overloading, children should not sit in front, play in the vehicle or put the head or arm out of the window,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, the RNP spokesperson, said.
He specifically warned school bus drivers against reckless driving especially when racing against time and urged school administrations to also monitor the character of their drivers,
“Ensuring the safety of students on the road is the responsibility of many players, including parents, school administration and even the general public, who can report careless drivers, those who drive while drunk, under duress or using the phone.”
ACP Rutikanga urged the public to always report reckless driving, for swift response to prevent accidents. (End)
