Minister Mark Cyubahiro in Kampala for AU Summit in agriculture

Rwanda’s Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources Dr Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe is attending the African Union’s Extraordinary Summit in Kampala to adopt 10-Year Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Strategy and Action Plan to advance agricultural transformation and food systems in Africa.

Ministers of Agriculture from the AU’s 55-member states are attending the summit, which will culminate in the adoption of the Kampala Declaration, and a landmark ten-year strategy and action plan, to boost the implementation of the Malabo Declaration on Accelerated Agricultural Growth and Transformation for Shared Prosperity and Improved Livelihoods, adopted in 2014.

The CAADP Strategy and Action Plan, set to run from 2026- 2035, has been under development over the last 10 months, following directives from the African Heads of State and Government.

World Bank data show that over 70 percent of the continent’s population derives its livelihood from agriculture. (End)
