On 9th April 2024, Ambassador Emmanuel Hategeka had the honor and privilege to present to Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, letters of Credence as Rwanda’s High Commissioner to South Africa alongside letters of recall of his Predecessor.
The Embassy of Rwanda in South Africa wrote via X that Ambassador Hategeka took the opportunity to deliver to President Ramaphosa a message sent by his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame. It is a message thanking him for joining Rwanda in the 30th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Ambassador Hategeka also vowed to strengthen the historical relationship between the two countries for the benefit of the people of both countries. The relationship between Rwanda and South Africa has been dormant, but the leaders of both countries say that they are in talks with the aim of further strengthening bilateral relations.
During a press conference held on April 8, President Paul Kagame announced that he was satisfied with the bilateral talks he had with Cyril Ramaphosa, and the way to solve the problems in the East of the DRC.
Before leaving Rwanda, President Ramaphosa said that the talks he had with President Kagame focused on solving the problems that have weakened the relations between the two countries in the past years, and on the security in Eastern DRC. (End)
