The Angolan representative to the United Nations Offices and other International Organizations in Geneva recognized the work done by Rwanda in the framework of the promotion and defense of Human Rights and fundamental freedom, during the review process of the Human Rights Council that takes place in Swiss Confederation.
Margarida Izata said that the Angolan government praises Rwanda’s efforts to ensure that the preparatory process for the periodic review is interactive and transparent for the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms at domestic level.
The diplomat emphasized that Rwanda has done everything in its power to ensure that this examination is comprehensive, interactive and transparent, particularly with regard to the power of women and gender equality, in enhancing social and economic well-being of its people through the fight against corruption and its negative impacts on the promotion of human rights.
Angola’s representative to the Offices of the United Nations and others International Organizations in Geneva said that Angola advised Rwanda to reinforce measures for effective implementation of the Law 43/2013 (which allows women and girls inherit land and property from their parents), including rural areas.
According to a press release from Angola’s diplomatic mission in Geneva, Switzerland, there is also a session today to present the report of São Tomé and Principe and which Angola will be represented. The press release indicates that São Tomé and Príncipe delegation will be headed by the Minister of Justice, Public Administration and Human Rights, Ivete Lima da Graça, who will demonstrate the country’s commitment to this important mechanism of the Human Rights Council.
“Angola foresees in its intervention to congratulate this country for the initiatives dedicated to the promotion, protection and realization of rights humans in São Tomé and Prince, as well as the implementation of the Objectives of Sustainable Development in favor of the well-being of the people from São Tomé”, refers to the press release.
Angola recommends that São Tomé and Príncipe reinforces the implementation of human rights in education and training programs at three levels of education, adopt specific measures to increase the representation of women in decision-making positions and consider the extension of the term for birth registration of children.
The press release highlights that Angola considers that the observations and recommendations presented by the Working Group of Universal Periodic Review of “very valuable and constructive” and that its suggestions contribute to strengthening promotion of national mechanisms and protection of human rights and that some of these actions are in line with the National Development Plan 2018-2020.
