Kigali: “Morocco respects the prerogatives of the UN Secretary-General regarding the appointment of a new Personal Envoy for the Sahara” said, on Friday 28th February 2020, in Laayoune, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Mr. Nasser Bourita.
“Morocco does not interfere in the prerogatives of the UN Secretary-General, while remaining attached to the principles and parameters set by the Security Council for the resolution of the Sahara issue”, underlined Mr. Bourita during a press briefing at the end of the 3rd Morocco-Pacific Island States Forum.
These principles and parameters to which the Kingdom adheres are in line with UN resolutions on the question of the Moroccan Sahara, he insisted.
The Minister also recalled the position expressed by the Pacific Island States in the “Laayoune Declaration” which notes that the resolution of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara can only be “in full respect for the territorial integrity of Morocco and its national sovereignty.”
Affirming that “the Sahara region is an integral part of the Moroccan territory”, the heads of delegations of the countries taking part in this Forum expressed their support for the efforts made under the exclusive aegis of the United Nations to reach a realistic, pragmatic and durable solution to this regional dispute, in full respect for the territorial integrity of Morocco and its national sovereignty.
