In Rabat, Morocco, Basketball Africa League(BAL) and Visit Rwanda held a media briefing on the 2024 BAL Combine, an elite scouting platform for talent.
It is a run-up to the league’s fourth season that will kick off on March 9, 2024 in Pretoria, South Africa. The playoffs and finals will be held in Kigali from 24 May to 1 June 2024.
At the event attended by Rwanda’s Ambassador to Morocco, Shakilla K. Umutoni, the Basketball Africa League president Amadou Gallo Fall emphasised the role of sports in driving economic development.
“In our efforts to continue to further this project, we are thankful to our partners, Rwanda Development Board and RwandAir with whom we renewed our trust last June. All this work could not be achieved without those partnerships.” said Amadou Gallo Fall.
“Since the start of our partnership, we have witnessed a remarkable evolution of Basketball both in Rwanda and across the continent. Young people have shown a growing interest in basketball, and we have seen increased job opportunities and infrastructure development in key sectors related to the sport. Rwanda is delighted to partner with BAL as it continues to establish itself as a global sports hub.” Said Rwego NGARAMBE, Director General of Sports Development at the Rwandan Ministry of Sports.
The first-ever three-day Combine on the continent will be attended by 30 players and scouts from across Africa, Europe, and the U.S.
The Basketball Africa League (BAL), a partnership between the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the NBA, is a professional league featuring 12 club teams from across Africa that completed its third season in May 2023. Headquartered in Dakar, Senegal, the BAL builds on the foundation of club competitions FIBA Africa has organized across the continent and marks the NBA’s first collaboration to operate a league outside North America.
