Member of Parliament (MP) of Canada, Arielle Kayabaga visited the Kigali memorial today to pay her respects to the victims of the genocide against the Tutsi and to learn more about its history.
MP Arielle Kayabaga is in Rwanda for a working visit. As part of her visit, Arielle Kayabaga visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial-home to remains of over 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi. She was guided through the memorial exhibits and learnt more on the causes, reality and consequences of the Genocide against the Tutsi as well as incredible stories of post-Genocide reconstruction.
“I had an opportunity to pay respects to the victims of the 1994 Tutsi Genocide at the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda. This tragedy should be a lesson for all of us to tolerate one another no matter our differences”, Arielle Kayabaga said via tweeter.
Arielle Kayabaga is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the 2021 Canadian federal election. She represents the electoral district of London West as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada.
Born in Bujumbura, Burundi in 1991, Kayabaga’s family moved to Canada when she was 11 as refugees from the Burundian Civil War, living in Montreal for a year before moving to London, Ontario. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Carleton University in Ottawa in 2013. (End)
