Police spokesperson CP John Bosco Kabera
Kigali: People providing varied essential services have been called upon to comply with safety guidelines so as not to contract or spread coronavirus (COVID-19).
Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that although some people and services are authorized to continue operating, there is need to exercise extra caution to be safe and to protect their clients.
“Traders especially those in markets and shops as well as airtime vendors, among others, are the people who receive and serve many customers every day, and vulnerable,” CP Kabera said.
“As we continue to enforce the government instructions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we also urge these vulnerable groups to be extra careful; wear gloves at all times, exercise social distancing between themselves and those they serve-at least one meter,” he added.
Rwanda Utility Regulatory Authority (RURA) directed all airtime vendors to wear gloves, put at least one-metre distance between them and to those they are service.
The regulatory body warned of appropriate actions to anyone, who violates these instructions, including locking their mobile business accounts and other penalties devised in relation to preventing the spread of coronavirus.
CP Kabera noted that implementing the orders is both a “combination of education and enforcement.”
“Rwanda National Police as a law enforcement organ is working with all relevant government entities to ensure that the directives are well elaborated to the citizenry, implemented and respected.”(End)
