The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the Czech Republic, Vít Rakušan, paid tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi at Kigali Genocide Memorial. Vít Rakušan is in Rwanda for a working visit.
“This small African country 29 years ago experienced an insane mass killing of ethnic Tutsi and moderate Hutus. At that time, up to a million people became victims of the rampage of radicals. It is good that these tragic events are remembered here so that similar horrors never happen again. I wish Rwanda to continue on a peaceful path”, he said via twitter.
Through a physical guide of the memorial exhibits this Wednesday, Vít Rakušan together with his delegation learnt more about the history of Genocide, its causes, implementation and consequences but also Rwanda’s journey to rebuilding.
The Kigali Genocide Memorial commemorates the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi . The remains of over 250,000 people are interred there. There is a visitor centre for students and others wishing to understand the events leading up to the genocide that occurred in Rwanda in 1994. (End)
