The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Vincent Sano has challenged the newly trained marine station commanders to maintain the principles of honour, courage and commitment, which form the foundation of the marine regiment.
The Deputy Police Chief made the remarks while closing a two-week Marine Station Command course in Rubavu District, which was attended by 14 Police officers.
He said that through training, Police forces become more professional, accountable and responsive to effectively serve and protect their communities.
He added that the role of marine station commanders is of great responsibility and significance as it requires technical expertise and strategic insight as well as the ability to lead with integrity, inspire confidence and adapt to ever changing circumstances.
“The skills and knowledge that you have acquired should serve as invaluable assets in your leadership roles in marine stations,” DIGP Sano said.
He added that leadership is not about authority or ranks but rather about service, sacrifice and responsibility–a fervent duty to those under their command.
The course was conducted by Rwanda National Police (RNP) in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
The two-week Marine Station Command course covered five main aspects, including leadership, conflict management, and impact of feedback.
Other areas include cooperation with stakeholders, operational cycle and aspects of the operation. (End)
