Deputy Police Chief visits Northern region Police units, calls for strengthened road safety campaign

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Vincent Sano, on Saturday, September 30, visited various Police units in the Northern region where he urged officers to strengthen road safety awareness campaigns.

This, he said, will further influence positive human behaviours on safer road usage and ultimately instill a road safety culture.

Human behaviours such as distracted driving, drunk driving, speeding, reckless overtaking and violating road signage, among others, account for the majority of fatal accidents.

More than 7800 accidents were recorded across the country between January and June, this year.

Motorcyclists and cyclists constitute the majority 53 percent of road users involved in accidents and related fatalities in the same period.

DIGP Sano, who visited various Police stations, urged police officers to work with the people and community policing groups, to build strong bonds in matters of security and development. (End)
