EAC leaders appoint Mueni Nduva from Kenya the new Secretary General

President Kagame participated in the 23rd Extra-ordinary meeting of the Summit of the EAC Heads of States, chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan who is the current chairperson of the EAC. 

According to the Rwandan State House, the virtual Summit appointed the new EAC Secretary General, Veronica Mueni Nduva, a Kenyan national. 

Kenyan President William Ruto nominated Nduva for the position to replace Peter Mathuki who has taken up his role as Kenya’s ambassador to Russia.

Veronica Mueni Nduva replaced Caroline Mwende Mueke who had initially been nominated by President William Ruto.  

The EAC is an intergovernmental organization composed of eight countries, namely the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania.  (End)
