Rwanda National Police (RNP) handball team started its campaign to defend the EAPCCO crown with a 36-25 win over Kenya Police Service (KPS) at BK Arena on Saturday, March 25.
The RNP team was fired up throughout the first half of the entertaining match scoring 20 goals, 10 above Kenya.
It was, however, a tight second period as Rwanda scored more 16 goals against 15 of Kenya. Both teams could not convert the two awarded penalties, each, which were saved by the goalkeepers.
Mbesutunguwe scored the game-high 10 goals to guide Rwanda to a well deserved victory.
Kenya Police Service takes on Uganda Police Force (UPF) on Sunday and Rwanda faces Uganda on Monday.
Basketball
Rwanda won gold in basketball after beating Tanzania 96-37 in the finals played at Lycee de Kigali.
Karate
Rwanda topped the overall table standing in karate with 15 medals, including nine gold, five silver and one bronze.
Burundi came second while Kenya was third.
The 4th edition of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) Games started on Tuesday March 21, attracting eight out of 14 member states to compete in 13 different sports disciplines.
The sports disciplines include football, handball, netball, volleyball, beach volleyball, basketball, athletics, darts, Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, boxing and shooting.
Participating countries are Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia and the host, Rwanda. (Fin)
