Kigali: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture launches a new project to support and develop the capacities of national organizations to innovate in Agriculture.
The new DeSIRA-FAO project: “Developing capacities in agricultural innovation systems: scaling up the Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP) Framework”.
The DeSIRA-FAO project at the national level, will assist Rwanda to assess its Agricultural Innovations Systems (AIS), identify capacity development needs and to strengthen Agricultural Innovation Systems.
The expected outcome of the DeSIRA-FAO project is to “Strengthened capacity to innovate in National Agricultural Innovation Systems”.
The project will contribute to the transformation of agriculture and food systems needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Purpose, objective and expected outcomes of the inception workshop:
The purpose of the one-day inception workshop is to officially launch the DeSIRA-FAO project in Rwanda and pave the way for effective, participatory project implementation that is well connected with Rwanda’s policies and initiatives. The specific objective is to prepare a validated plan for implementing the DeSIRA-FAO project, in consultation with relevant national stakeholders.
Expected outcomes of the inception workshop are:
- Awareness raised and shared understanding reached among relevant key partners regarding the project’s objectives, expected results and proposed activities and processes.
- Roles and responsibilities of key actors are clarified, and implementation modalities and specific entry points for the project are identified and validated.
- Alignment with relevant policies and initiatives on capacity development and agricultural innovation in Rwanda is established to ensure synergies and value-addition.
The workshop is jointly organized by the FAO Rwanda and the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI). (End)
