Kirehe: Six suspected drug traffickers were arrested in separate Police operations conducted on Sunday and Monday in Nyabihu, Gasabo and Rulindo districts.
They were arrested with combined 6411 pellets of cannabis.
In Nyabihu, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Innocent Gasasira, said that Hesron Uvomanyeningwe, 43, and Dorocan Icyimanimpaye, 19, were found in possession of 4070 rolls of cannabis.
“The District Police Unit of Nyabihu received information about a vehicle that was trafficking drugs. A snap-check was mounted in Kagere Village, Kora Cell in Bigogwe Sector along Rubavu-Musanze highway where the vehicle plate number RAA 948W, Toyota Hiace type, was intercepted, searched and recovered 4070 rolls of cannabis,” CIP Gasasira said.
Uvomanyeningwe and Icyimanimpaye, the alleged owners of the drugs, who were on board, were immediately taken into custody, the spokesperson said.
In Gasabo, security personnel in Jali Sector arrested one Twahirwa and Alphonse Hagenimana with 205 pellets of cannabis.
In Rulindo, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, CIP Alex Rugigana said that a “targeted operation based on credible information” arrested Ferdinand Hategekimana, 19, and Jean d’Amour Dusingizimana in Buhande Village, Gasiza Cell in Bushoki Sector with 2136 pellets of cannabis.
Police called upon the general public to increase vigilance and ownership against narcotic drugs by reporting dealers in their communities. (End)
