Joint meeting on border security between Rwanda and Uganda took place in Nyagatare, Eastern Province

Nyagatare: Joint meeting on border security between Rwanda and Uganda today took place in Nyagatare, Eastern Province as communicated by the the following press release:  

1. AFTER A FIRST SUCCESSFUL JOINT CROSS BORDER SECURITY MEETING HELD IN KABALE, REPUBLIC OF UGANDA, IN DECEMBER 2023, A SECOND RWANDA-UGANDA CROSS BORDER SECURITY MEETING CONVENED OFFICIALS FROM THE TWO SISTERLY COUNTRIES IN NYAGATARE DISTRICT, EASTERN PROVINCE, REPUBLIC OF RWANDA.

2. THE RWANDAN DELEGATION WAS LED BY MS. CLEMENTINE MUKEKA, PERMANENT SECRETARY IN THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF RWANDA, WHILE THE UGANDAN DELEGATION WAS LED BY AMBASSADOR DR. JULIUS J. KIVUNA, HEAD OF REGIONAL PEACE AND SECURITY IN THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF UGANDA. 

3. THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THE MEETING WAS TO FURTHER STRENGTHEN COOPERATION BETWEEN RWANDA – UGANDA AND EASE MOVEMENT OF PERSONS AND GOODS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES. 

4. THE MEETING ALSO ASSESSED THE CURRENT STATUS OF SHARED CHALLENGES FACED IN THE SECTORS OF IMMIGRATION, TRADE, CUSTOMS, HEALTH, BORDER DEMARCATION AND SECURITY. 

5. THE TWO COUNTRIES WELCOMED THE CONTINUOUS EFFORTS TO PROVIDE A PLATFORM FOR FRUITFUL DIALOGUE AND COOPERATION. 

6. THEY FURTHER COMMENDED THE PROGRESS MADE IN ACHIEVING THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING AND URGED BOTH COUNTRIES TO ENSURE THE FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW RESOLUTIONS TAKEN. 

7. AT THE CONCLUSION, THE PERMANENT SECRETARY CLEMENTINE MUKEKA AND AMBASSADOR DR. JULIUS J. KIVUNA HAILED THE RENEWED SPIRIT OF GOOD NEIGHBOURLINESS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES AND EXPRESSED SATISFACTION WITH THE OUTCOMES OF THE MEETING.
