The sessions of the Libyan Dialogue held in Morocco have triggered a positive dynamic and gave rise to great optimism among the Libyans and the international community to achieve a solution to the crisis in this country, said on Thursday, November 05,2020, in Bouznika Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita.
The Minister made these comments following the consultation session held on November 4-5 in Bouznika between the representatives of the electoral constituencies of the House of Representatives and the Libyan High Council of State with the aim of ensuring the success of the political dialogue scheduled for Nov. 9 in Tunisia.
According to Mr. Bourita, the Bouznika sessions have generated a positive dynamic and paved the way for other meetings which have all given positive results and hope.
“There is today great optimism among the Libyans and the international community” to achieve a solution to the crisis in this country, said Bourita, highlighting the positive spirit and the firm will displayed by the two participating parties to continue this dialogue which is based on a unique approach that allows Libyans to have a dialogue “by the Libyans, through them and for them”.
He stressed that this is the approach adopted by Morocco upon the instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, adding that this approach has taught others a lesson, according to which the Libyans alone are capable of solving their problems by showing a sense of responsibility and patriotism for the benefit of their country.
Morocco’s only will is to stand alongside all Libyans and facilitate them the means to negotiate among themselves without interference or influence, the Minister underlined.
The Minister stressed in this regard that the Kingdom has a “strong conviction” that the High Council of State and the Libyan House of Representatives cannot be excluded to achieve any progress in the settlement of the Libyan crisis, given that these are two legitimate institutions and represent the hard core around which this solution will be formed. Thanks to these institutions, the implementation of compromises will be achieved on the ground, he added.
Mr. Bourita also reaffirmed that Morocco considers that the UN “umbrella” remains necessary to reach a solution to the Libyan crisis, and works according to clear references, represented mainly in the political agreement of Skhirat, the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the initiatives the Libyans have agreed to.
“We are happy to see that the Libyan Dialogue has led to important agreements that will facilitate work in the coming stages and shorten the distances to achieve a solution hoped for by all Libyans,” he said, welcoming once again the spirit with which the two sides work in the interest of Libya and the Libyans.
The Minister also stressed that Morocco will always be at the sides of the two parties to ensure all the conditions so that this dialogue can continue on all the fundamental issues and will mobilize all its energies so that this dialogue is recognized as an essential element in achieving any solution under the aegis of the United Nations.
For his part, Mr. Ibrahim Sahad, of the Libyan High Council of State, expressed “great gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty King Mohammed VI who is standing by our side”, stressing that the Libyan Dialogue sessions in Bouznika “allowed us to reach many agreements which were out of reach before”.
In her turn, Aicha Mehdi Chalabi expressed, on behalf of the delegation of the Libyan House of Representatives, “sincere thanks to Morocco, King, government and people, and full appreciation for what the Kingdom has done to help our people, support us and be by our side in our crisis through a historic message of peace which will be taught to our children”.
