This afternoon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Vincent Biruta officially closed the 11th Joint Permanent Commission between Rwanda and Uganda held in Kigali.
“This important meeting marks another milestone in the ongoing process to revitalize the longstanding and excellent bilateral relations between our two countries,” he said while delivering remarks.
During this meeting, four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed in the fields of justice and constitutionalism, mutual legal assistance, diplomatic and political consultations, and migration matters.
Officials from Rwanda and Uganda met this week in Kigali for the 11th Joint Permanent Commission (JPC), the first such forum since the normalization of relations between the two countries.
The commission was revived in September 2022 during a meeting between Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeje Odongo, and his Rwandan counterpart, Vincent Biruta, on September 1, 2022.
Rwanda reopened its border with Uganda in 2022 which had been closed in February 2019 after political differences spiraled between the two East African neighbors. (End)
