Today, on 25 March 2024, the Minister of Defense, Juvenal Marizamunda together with the Rwanda’s Chief Army General Mubarakh Muganga received Brigadier General (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema, Director of Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Secretariat, accompanied by Colonel Jens Lindvig, Chairperson of the Friends of EASF.
EASF member states are convening in Kigali for a four-day session aimed at assessing disaster readiness of member states, promoting collaboration, and exchanging best practices to strengthen preparedness.
In its current form, the regional force is usually made up of troops from 10 member countries – Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Somalia, Seychelles, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Comoros, Sudan and Burundi – and includes combined military, police and civilian components.
The Eastern Africa Standby Force is a regional organization whose mandate is to enhance peace and security in the Eastern Africa region. It is one of the five regional multidimensional Forces of the African Standby Force (ASF) consisting of Military, Police and Civilian components. (End)
