Rwanda’s Minister of State in charge of Regional Cooperation Gen (Rtd) James Kabarebe attended the Special Sitting of the 5th Assembly of EALA (East African Legislative Assembly) in Nairobi which was officiated by William Ruto, President of Kenya.
The assembly aims to discuss crucial regional issues, proposed legislations for harmonization, and strategies to enhance socio-economic development across the East African region.
Under the chairmanship of EALA speaker Joseph Ntakirutimana, the assembly is deliberating on important regional matters, legislations proposed for harmonization, and strategies to bolster socio-economic development within the East African region.
EALA’s commitment to promoting the principles of good governance, democracy, and regional peace will remain at the core of the House discussions during this critical session scheduled for the 3rd of March – 20th of March, 2024 in Nairobi (Kenya).
Amidst ongoing regional conflicts, particularly in Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the EALA’s session comes at a critical time. The current EAC Chair Council of Ministers , Deng Kuol, highlighted the proactive steps being taken by the EAC leaders to resolve these conflicts.
Engagements with the presidents of Rwanda, Burundi, and the DRC aim to facilitate dialogue and conflict resolution, demonstrating the EAC’s commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region. This initiative is crucial for enabling continued progress and cooperation among the member states. (End)
