The Moroccan medical aid sent to the Union of the Comoros, as part of aids granted by the Kingdom following the High Instructions of His Majesty Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, to several African countries to back their efforts in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, arrived on Tuesday 23rd of June 2020, at Moroni international airport.
The aid was received at a ceremony which was attended by Comorian Foreign Minister Mr. Mohamed El-Amine Souef, Economy Minister, Covid-19 Coordinator and government’s spokesperson Mr. Houmed Msaidie, Health Minister, Mrs Loub Yakout Zaidou, and Director of African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Moroccans abroad Mr. Mohamed Sbihi.
Speaking on this occasion Mr. Sbihi said that His Majesty the King has given His High Instructions to send this aid to the Union of the Comoros as part of fraternal and active solidarity, noting that this aid includes several equipment and medicines manufactured in Morocco and which comply with WHO standards.
“This is therefore a 100% African response to an African challenge,” he pointed out.
For his part, the Comorian Foreign Minister welcomed “this lofty Royal Initiative” and “this generous gift from the Kingdom” which are likely to contribute to the strengthening of long-standing relations between the peoples of the two countries.
“This Royal Initiative which has concerned several African countries is part of the promotion of South-South cooperation,” he said.
The Moroccan aid sent to several African countries is intended to provide protective medical equipment to support these countries in their efforts to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The medical aid sent to these countries includes some 8 million medical masks, 900,000 protective visors, 600,000 hygiene caps, 60,000 medical gowns, 30,000 liters of hydroalcoholic gel, 75,000 boxes of chloroquine and 15,000 boxes of Azithromycin.
This solidarity action is part of the implementation of the Initiative launched by His Majesty Mohammed VI, King of Morocco on April 13, 2020, as a pragmatic and action-oriented approach, intended to the brotherly African countries, enabling the sharing of experiences and good practices and aiming to establish an operational framework in order to support their efforts in the various phases of the management of the pandemic.
