Rwanda National Police RNP) reminds motorists to be extra careful on the roads as heavy rain continues across the country.
Rwanda Meteorology Agency predicts heavy downpour in most parts of the country which can increase the risks of floods and landslides.
Rains create potentially dangerous weather conditions for motorists, which requires vigilance to avoid likely accidents and loss of lives.
The RNP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, said: “Rains and bad weather can be dangerous to road users, especially vehicles and motorcycles.
There are few tips that you should consider when on the roads, in case of heavy rain: avoid speeding, don’t drive through flooded road; if you cannot observe clearly in at least 100 meters ahead, wait until the weather normalize; always turn on the headlights preferably on a dipped beam, keep a good distance from the car in front of you. Watch out for obstacles like trees, stones and other objects that block the road.”
He also advised them to always keep both hands on the steering wheel to enable you to have full control of the motor-vehicle, to check tyres and replace them if they are old; your windscreen should be clear with functioning screen wipers, brake lights, taillights, headlights and indicators. (End).
