MPs satisfied with oral answers on VUP by Minister of Local Government

The Chamber of Deputies held a plenary session where they expressed their satisfaction with the oral answers given by Dr. Mugenzi Patrice, the Minister of Local Government.

The discussion focused on several issues related to the Vision Umurenge Programme (VUP), including the financial services credit scheme, the level of awareness among beneficiaries of the programme, and the collaboration between institutions in implementing VUP.

The Minister provided verbal responses to questions raised by Members of Parliament. These concerns stemmed from their nationwide visits, where they evaluated citizens’ welfare and the government’s economic empowerment programs across 248 sectors. The focus was on the progress of initiatives designed to improve citizens’ livelihoods and how individuals are accessing financial services to implement income-generating projects through financial institutions, savings groups, and cooperatives.

Minister Mugenzi outlined the government’s policies and strategies to address challenges in social protection programmes and other initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ welfare confirming that the plan involves capacity building of programmes’ beneficiaries and ensuring continued monitoring of citizens who graduated from poverty categories.

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Kazarwa Gertrude, stated that Parliament will continue to monitor the implementation of the strategies outlined by the Minister to ensure that sustainable solutions are in place. (End)
