Kigali: The Republic of Djibouti inaugurated, on Friday 28 February 2020, its Consulate General in Dakhla, on the occasion of an official ceremony chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and of Moroccan Expatriates , Mr. Nasser Bourita , and the Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to Morocco, Mr. Ibrahim Bileh Doualeh, who represented his Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“This is the first diplomatic representation of a member country of the League of Arab States, which crowns the development of relations between the two countries,” said Mr. Nasser Bourita, adding that it “also constitutes the third consular representation inaugurated in Dakhla, after the Gambian Consulate General, which opened on January 7, and Guinea’s Consulate General, which began offering its services on the 17th of the same month”.
“Morocco and Djibouti have been able to develop privileged and secular relations, under the leadership of H.M King Mohammed VI and the President of the Republic of Djibouti, HE. Ismail Omar Guelleh”, stressed Mr. Bourita during a joint press briefing with the ‘ Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti, Mr. Ibrahim Bileh Doualeh.
This development of bilateral relations was materialized through the opening of the Embassy of Djibouti in Rabat, in 2013, and the strengthening of the bilateral legal framework, which today includes a dozen agreements, as well as the opening of a diplomatic antenna of the Kingdom of Morocco in Djibouti over the past year and which will soon turn into an Embassy for Morocco, noted the Minister, who co-chaired with Mr. Doualeh the opening ceremony of the Consulate General of Djibouti in Dakhla.
In this context, Mr. Bourita stressed that relations between Morocco and Djibouti are characterized by solidarity and cooperation in all areas, especially the technical field, stressing that Djibouti has always been alongside with Morocco to support and defend its issues, whether within the African Union (AU) or the United Nations.
He also added that Djibouti, who currently chairs the AU Peace and Security Council, has worked in permanent coordination with Morocco, particularly on the issue of the national question, so that it is not used or exploited by certain parties within the AU.
In addition, Mr. Bourita said that 100 scholarships are granted to Djiboutian students, stressing that these scholarships relate to training and studies in the Southern Provinces, in Dakhla in particular, via training institutes. (End)
