The nationwide Gerayo Amahoro road safety campaign continued this week in different parts of the country where Police officers met over 12,300 road users in an effort to further influence behavioral change on road usage.
The mass road safety education was extended to drivers, taxi-moto operators, commercial cyclists, students and pedestrians.
They were explained on human behaviours that cause road carnage and urged to adhere to traffic regulations to make roads safer for all.
“Reckless use of the road claims lives of people, lifetime injuries and destroys property. It is a loss to families and country in general. Gerayo Amahoro campaign is, therefore, designed to influence positive driving, riding and how pedestrians use the road; the role of every road user in preventing reckless practices that cost lives of people,” the RNP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, said.
Although road accidents reduced by about 12.8% last year compared to 2022, ACP Rutikanga said that every life matters, and that making road safety a choice rather than abiding traffic rules as a law, will go a long way to make everyone safe. (End)
