Over 30 Police officers complete seminar on leadership and management

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in Charge of Administration and Personnel, DCG Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza said that Rwanda National Police (RNP) values quality leadership and management as a cornerstone to achieve its mandate and mission.

The Deputy Police Chief was speaking at the closing of the Middle Level Leadership and Management seminar on strategies to combat corruption, on Friday, October 11, at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters Kacyiru.

The five-day seminar for 34 Police officers was conducted in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat.

“Reflect on the incredible topics covered, discussions and insights shared… and the essential skills and strategies that empower commanders as leaders in law enforcement,” DIGP Ujeneza said.

The seminar explored the nuances of ethics and integrity, management cycle (planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling), conflict management (decision-making and conflict resolution), and anti-corruption strategies (deterrence, declaration of assets), among others.

“Leadership at the middle level is vital to the success of every organization. For the RNP, you are the bridge between the frontlines and the force command when dealing with the management of daily policing operations. Your ability to inspire, motivate, and support your unit members will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of the entire force,” she said.

She urged them to foster an environment of teamwork, commitment to deliver at their best with integrity and professionalism within their units.

She further emphasized the importance of open feedback and innovation from subordinates,  carrying forward the spirit of self-learning for improvement in their policing career to remain ahead of criminals. (End)
