Rabat – The Foreign Affairs Committee at the Peruvian Congress reiterates its support for the Moroccan autonomy plan and the Kingdom’s sovereignty over all its territory, said, on Monday March 07, 2022, the President of the Committee, Mr. Ernesto Bustamante.
“The full sovereignty of Morocco over the southern provinces should be recognized and we have expressed this on several occasions and in open communications to parliament,” Bustamante told the press after talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita,
“The path of autonomy is the only viable solution” to resolve the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, said Bustamante, who leads a parliamentary delegation on a visit to Morocco, voicing the hope for a formal recognition by the Peruvian government of this autonomy plan.
He also noted that, on the Peruvian Parliament’s side, “it is a position that is already established”.
During its visit to Morocco, the Peruvian delegation will have meetings with several Moroccan officials. The Peruvian parliamentary delegation includes José Cueto, the President of the Congress Intelligence Committee, and Patricia Juarez, President of the Constitutional Commission of the Peruvian Congress.
