A delegation from the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Secretariat visited Rwanda National Police (RNP) to conduct verification on the force’s capabilities and deployment readiness.
The verification team headed by the EASF Force Commander, Brig Gen Vincent Gatama, is in the country for a three-day working visit to assess Rwanda’s pledged capabilities and readiness.
They toured various RNP facilities and equipment at the General Headquarters at Kacyiru and Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.
At PTS, they visited the training facilities, including smart classes, training materials, Formed Police Unit (FPU) major equipment and witnessed crowd dispersal drills.
The PTS Commandant, Commissioner of Police (CP) Robert Niyonshuti briefed the team on the School training programmes, including Cadet and Basic courses, Police Tactical Command Course, FPU and Protection Support Unit (PSU) pre-deployment training courses, DASSO Basic Course, Basic Driving Course (Heavy and Light Vehicles), APC Driving and Gunnery Course.
The Team commended the PTS training programmes and readiness adding that such facilities will create impact in the EASF peace support missions.
The EASF is a regional mechanism, which was established to enhance peace and security in the Eastern Africa region.
The ten-member regional bloc is one of the five regional multidimensional forces of the African Standby Force (ASF) consisting of Military, Police and Civilian components that are always on standby for rapid deployment. (End)
