The Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, on Saturday, November 2, met with media practitioners operating in the Western Province to harness the working relations between the Police and the media.
The interaction session provided a platform for journalists to understand the RNP operations, the security situation in the Western region and the communication channels that facilitate the media to easily access Police information.
“The Police and the media play complimentary roles to build safer and developing societies for sustainable nationhood. It goes with feeding the public with facts not rumours, balanced and right information,” ACP Rutikanga said.
He urged the media to support ongoing efforts against smuggling, drug trafficking, youth drunkenness (Tunywe Less), Gerayo Amahoro road safety campaign and other acts that affect community and national development.
On Police professionalism and discipline, ACP Rutikanga, said: “RNP does not tolerate any acts of indiscipline of its officers. There have been isolated cases where a Police officer, in the course of executing his or her tasks, goes against the professional standards and values of the force. In such instances, internal disciplinary measures are taken but where necessary, cases are referred to prosecution because no one is above the law.” (End)
