Police urge transport agencies to facilitate students going back to school

From Monday, April 21, students will start returning to their respective schools across the country to commence the third term of the 2024/2025 academic year.

Rwanda National Police (RNP) therefore urges transporters, head-teachers and parents to ensure the safe and easy travel of students back to school.

According to the travel schedule released by the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA), students going to schools in Ruhango, Gisagara, Ngororero, Musanze, Nyagatare and Gatsibo districts, will depart on Monday, April 21.

Students attending schools in Nyanza, Nyamagabe, Nyabihu, Rubavu, Rulindo, Gakenke, Rwamagana and Kayonza districts, will leave on Tuesday, April 22. Those returning to schools in Huye, Kamonyi, Karongi, Rutsiro, Gicumbi, Ngoma and Kirehe districts, will travel on Wednesday, April 23.

Meanwhile, students attending schools in the districts of Muhanga, Nyaruguru, Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Bugesera, Burera, Nyarugenge, Gasabo and Kicukiro districts, are scheduled to depart on Thursday, April 24.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Emmanuel Kayigi, the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety department, urged parents and guardians to send students to boarding stations early. This will allow for proper facilitation and ensure that students arrive at their schools on time.

“As students return to school, there is always notable increase in movement and the traffic flow. These guidelines aim to mitigate risks associated with the surge of passengers and ensure that students arrive at their respective school promptly and safely,” SP Kayigi said.

He further reminded public transport agencies to give priority to students to help them arrive early at school. He also urged drivers to drive responsibly, prevent speeding and use of phone when driving, and not to drive under any influence. (End)
