Yerevan: Heads of State and Government of the Oraganisation Internationale de le Francophonie (OIF) member countries unanimously confirmed on Friday Louise Mushikiwabo - Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and East African Community, as the next OIF Secretary General.

The decision followed President Kagame presentation of Minister Mushikiwabo as Africa's and Rwanda's candidate.

This follows the unanimous decision of the 31st African Union Heads of State Summit held in Nouakchott, Mauritania in July this year to present Mushikiwabo as the African Union's candidate.

The decision was reached on the second and last day of the 17th OIF Summit held in Yerevan, Armenia bringing together Heads of State and Government as well as other official delegations representing OIF member states.

Rwanda is a founding member of OIF which was created in 1970 to promote the French language, peace, and sustainable development. The Organisation's 84 member States and Observers represent over one-third of UN Members States and account for a population of over 900 million people, including 274 million French speakers. .
