Rwanda’s Premier Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente represented President Kagame in the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye in Dakar, Senegal.
After the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Dr. Ngirente was received by President Bassirou Diomaye, at the Senegalese Presidential Palace and delivered to him a special message and gift from President Kagame.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye was sworn in as Senegal’s fifth president, having defeated main rival and ruling party coalition candidate Amadou Ba and winning the delayed election with over 54% of the vote.
At 44, Faye is the youngest man elected president in Senegal. His inauguration was attended by more than a dozen regional leaders.
Senegal and Rwanda have had diplomatic relations for a number of years. In 2021, the country’s embassy in Rwanda celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Senegal is one of the African countries where Rwanda has an embassy.
In the context of cooperation, several agreements have been signed at various levels including political, economic and cultural. Senegal accommodates many Rwandans for education or other purposes for the past 40 years.
Since 2016, RwandAir has launched flights to various destinations of Western Africa including Cotonou, Abidjan, Douala and Dakar in Senegal among others. (End)
