President Kagame awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration by Yonsei University of Seoul

Today in Seoul, Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame visited Yonsei University where he met with Professor Dong-Sup Yoon, and faculty members to discuss furthering partnership and increasing the number of Rwandan students, ahead of being conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration.

“Achieving real prosperity requires mindsets of truth-seeking, critical thinking, and creativity. A country also needs to secure the freedom to set its own path, despite the pressures and hypocrisies from the international system, especially for small and medium-sized nations. We decided to focus on instilling these virtues in our young people, as a strategy for national transformation. We needed to confront the truth of our history, above all, and ensure that the memory of our tragic past was not forgotten.” President Kagame said in his acceptance speech as he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration by Yonsei University.

“What is the purpose of public policy? Let me put it succinctly, in light of my country’s experience: The purpose of public policy is to make our citizens safe, united, free, creative, and prosperous, more or less in that order.” President Kagame added in his  Acceptance Speech. President Kagame also visited the University’s Heavy Ion Therapy Center.

Yonsei University is a Christian private university in Seoul, South Korea. The university was established in January 1957 through the union of Yonhi College and Severance Union Medical College.

President Kagame is in Seoul for the first Korea-Africa Summit, held between June 4 and 5 at KINTEX International Exhibition Center in Ilsan and Seoul. (End)
