President Kagame embarks on three-day official visit to Latvia

From 1st to 3rd October 2024, the President of Rwanda, Mr Paul Kagame, will pay an official visit to Latvia aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. 

“Official visit by H.E. President Paul Kagame to the Republic of Latvia (1-3 October 2024). First official visit by a Rwandan President to the Baltic States. First official visit by an African President to Latvia”, Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe said on his Social media accounts.

During the visit, a commemorative plaque dedicated to the victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi will be unveiled at the National Library of Latvia. (“The Castle of Light”).

This will be the first genocide memorial erected in the Baltic States and in Eastern Europe. 

During his visit, the President of Rwanda will meet with the highest officials of Latvia – President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Speaker of the Saeima Daiga Mieriņa and Prime Minister Evika Siliņa. 

President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, and President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, will discuss bilateral relations, current security challenges in Africa and Europe, as well as cooperation in international organisations.

Latvia is a country on the Baltic Sea between Lithuania and Estonia.(End).
