The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, will be the guest of honour at Seychelles’ National Day parade on June 29. The National Day is observed annually on June 29th and commemorates the day when Seychelles achieved its independence from Great Britain in the mid-1970s.
Kagame’s visit, which is scheduled from June 28 to July 2, comes at the behest of Seychelles’ President, Wavel Ramkalawan. During the visit, President Kagame will hold bilateral discussions with President Ramkalawan at State House and it is anticipated that memoranda of understanding and agreements will be signed. He will also address an Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly.
This will be the second visit of President Kagame to Seychelles, a beautiful archipelago located in the western Indian Ocean. The Rwandan President made a private visit to the island nation in August 2018 during which he held discussions with Danny Faure, the President of Seychelles at the time.
Seychelles Independence Day takes place on June 29. The Seychelles has been a member of the Commonwealth of Nations ever since it was granted independence in 1976. The anniversary of their independence is usually celebrated by a vibrant display of pride and patriotism that spreads throughout the city. Streets are usually decorated with the bright colors of the Seychelles flag. Even the lamp posts are also decorated with twinkling lights.
