Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame today virtually met with Patricia Scotland, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
President Kagame, who is also Commonwealth Chair-in-Office since 24 June 2022, was updated on ongoing Commonwealth activities.
The Secretary General briefed the President on the progress made on the goals set by Commonwealth countries during the CHOGM hosted in Kigali last year.
President Kagame was named the new Chairman of the Commonwealth for two years after successfully hosting the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM) in the Capital Kigali.
The Chair-in-Office represents the Commonwealth at high-level international meetings and reinforces the Good Offices role of the Commonwealth Secretary-General.
The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 independent and equal countries. It is home to 2.5 billion people, and includes both advanced economies and developing countries. 32 of the members are small states, including many island nations. (End)
