President Kagame in Switzerland for Effective Development Co-operation Summit

President Kagame is in Geneva where he is participating in the 2022 Effective Development Co-operation Summit.

This afternoon, President Kagame attended the Opening Session of the Summit, bringing together stakeholders to reflect on practical development cooperation with the aim of achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Summit aims to build a common understanding on measures to be taken, including building trust and working together, when approaching global challenges.

President Kagame joined President Ignazio Cassis of Swiss Confederation, President Maia Sandu of Moldova, Amina J Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and others for the Opening Session, during which he delivered a keynote address.

Ahead of the Opening Session of the Summit, President Kagame attended a breakfast hosted by President Cassis.

The Summit, organized by Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) brings together governments, bilateral and multilateral development partners, civil society organizations, private sector, philanthropies, trade unions and others to take stock of international efforts to make development cooperation more effective. The Summit will promote a clear and deliberate political commitment from all actors and a renewed focus on agreed development priorities.

The GPEDC joins 161 countries and 56 organizations around the four principles that form the foundation of effective development co-operation; country ownership over the development process, a focus on results, inclusive development partnerships, transparency and mutual accountability. (End)
