This morning in Remera, President Kagame joins Masai Ujiri for the ground-breaking of Zaria Court, an urban development project with a focus on community, hospitality, sports, and culture. Masai Ujiri is the Toronto Raptors president and vice-chair and Giants of Africa co-founder.
“Africa’s potential is enormous and limitless, there is a lot that can be nurtured and grown here in our continent that connects with many other things in other sectors. In Africa, sports is a big thing, it connects people from all walks of life, and connecting with that every day helps the spirit to grow. Even in other areas of development, sports will grow the infrastructure and economies, and contribute to tourism. There is definitely something much bigger than we can see with our eyes,” said President Kagame at the ground-breaking event for the construction of the Zaria Court.
Speaking at the event, Ujiri said, “Undoubtedly, the road has been challenging. However, the perseverance we exhibit is fortified by the incredible support. The manner in which business is conducted here in Rwanda, under your President Kagame’s guidance is truly first-class. It’s the spirit of problem-solving that pervades – a mind-set we need more of in this world. We genuinely appreciate the ethos behind it.”
The Zaria Court project is being developed as part of Kigali Sports City and it is expected to create over 500 jobs in hospitality and tourism. The project is the first Zaria Court on the continent, and is centred around an urban hospitality hub.
It repurposes the former RBC headquarters building in Remera, which will feature an 80-room boutique hotel, restaurants, a rooftop lounge, a gym, wellness spaces, co-working spaces and a podcast studio. At the heart of the site is a multi-purpose court, which will serve as a space for sporting events, festivals, performances, markets and other events. (End)
