
On behalf of President Paul Kagame, Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente joined Rwanda’s Catholic community to pay tribute to and pray for His Holiness Pope Francis during a Requiem Mass at Regina Pacis Parish in Kigali.
In his remarks after the Mass, the Prime Minister began by conveying his condolences to Catholics on the passing of Pope Francis. He commended Pope Francis’ role in fostering good relations between the Catholic Church and Rwanda.
In this regard, the Prime Minister appreciated Pope Francis’ courage in acknowledging the Catholic Church’s role in Rwanda’s history. He emphasized that the strong relationship between Rwanda and the Catholic Church is built on truth, reconciliation, and a shared commitment to improving the well-being of Rwandans.
The Premier also highlighted that Pope Francis left behind a valuable legacy characterized by humility, compassion for the poor, and forgiveness. He underscored the importance of embracing these virtues to promote peace and harmony.
The Prime Minister concluded his remarks by recognizing the Catholic Church’s significant contribution to Rwanda’s development and reaffirming the Government’s commitment to further strengthening this cooperation. (End)
